A five member gang from Bihar involved in chain-snatching and baggage lifting on trains and platforms was busted by the Government Railway Police GRP at Gnanapuram here.
Superintendent of Police GRP Shyam Prasad said on Tuesday that the gang leader Raja and his team from Gharia village in Bihar took a house on rent at Gnanpuram four month ago. Trainee SIs Venugopal Rao, Vijay Kumar and Venkateswara Rao and their team during the course of investigation detected that the gang had taken a house on rent.
They conducted a raid and arrested Kalidas and Shambu Mandal while the gang leader and two others managed to escape.
The police recovered 18 tolas of gold ornaments, valued at Rs.5 lakh, a small weighing machine, four cell phones and a master key from the accused.
The SP said that the accused were involved in two case of chain snatching from women passengers in trains and platforms and bag lifting at Visakhapatnam railway sStation and three cases at Duvvada.
Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Venkata Rao and CI Naveen Kumar were present at the media conference.
