A 16-year-old girl had been repeatedly raped allegedly by her relative Shaik Fareed Shahisha (60) for over eight months.
The victim approached Police Commissioner Amit Garg and lodged a complaint against the accused on Monday. The girl was residing with her 80-year-old grandmother as her parents had died long ago.
She went to her relative Fareed’s house several months ago. Fareed, pretending to offer help, assured her that he would bail her out of her financial problems. Believing his words, the girl went to his office on July 20, last year, seeking money to buy medicines for her grandmother.
Taking advantage of the situation, Fareed allegedly raped her at his office. He threatened her with dire consequences, if she told her relatives or approached the police. Fareed subsequently raped her on several occasions and had even promised to marry her, it was said. When the girl insisted on Fareed marrying her, he backtracked. She alleged that Fareed’s son had threatened her and asked her to leave the city immediately.
The Police Commissioner referred the case to the One Town police. A case was registered and the victim was sent for medical examination.
