Around 1,400 kg dry ganja, estimated to cost over Rs.2 crore, was seized and two youths were arrested by officials of the Prohibition and Excise (Taskforce) Department at Anakapalle on Sunday.
The accused – L. Ramesh (25) and S. Chiranjeevi (24) – both natives of Paderu in Visakhapatnam Agency, packed the contraband in 70 gunny bags and placed it in the luggage cabin of the truck and covered it with several tarpaulins to avoid detection by the enforcement officials, according to Inspector (Taskforce) of Anakapalle Prohibition and Excise Station, K.V.P. Naidu.
On a tip-off, the Excise officials intercepted the vehicle and seized the contraband. The ganja was estimated to fetch between Rs.5,000 and Rs.7,000 a kg in Chennai.
G. Kalyan, another accused in the case, managed to escape.
A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act and investigation is on.
