Waltair Division excelled in all fields despite of hardships due to Natural calamities and in the crucial period of end of this financial year due to pandemic Corona virus infection. Due to the consistent and relentless efforts of Team Waltair, the performance index attained good slope under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava. The Division’s consistent performance has also shared contribution in achieving the East Coast Railway (ECoR) to set a new record during 2019-20 financial year by loading 200.85 million tonne of freight from its jurisdiction which is 4.73% more than the previous financial year. In 2018-19 financial year, this Railway had loaded 191.76 million tonne of freight.
Waltair Division focused on infrastructural development as well as concentrated on safety, security and improvement of passenger amenities. The efforts of committed workforce resulted in loading of 66.81 million tons in 2019-20 financial year where as it has transported 61.91 million tons in last financial year 2018-19 from April to March, that posted 7.91% growth. This fetched the Division to earn from loading in the 2019-20 to the tune of Rs 8166.63 crores against Rs 7306.27 crores in the last financial year which is again 11.78% more than last financial year.
In the passenger front the Division ferried 35.86 million passengers in this financial year that fetched Rs 677.52 crores which is 0.62% more than the last financial year earnings that pegged Rs 673.34 crores. The super cyclones in various parts of the Division and in different parts of the country disrupted the traffic that lead to decrease in the passenger traffic as well as freight traffic.
Apart from the loading and passenger movement, the Division set many firsts in its innovative concepts focusing improvement of passenger amenities with world class concepts and to generate revenue through non fare revenue system. The Division pioneered in setting up of a AC relaxing lounge, a refreshing lounge, an entertainment zone for the kids, Car display at railway station, Human interactive Interface etc that made the division a trend setter under the leadership of DRM, Waltair Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava. The non-fare revenue contributed an amount of Rs 4 crores.
Further the division has concentrated on ticket checking activities to check the ticketless travelers. 2,145 Ticket checking drives were organized in the financial year 2019-20 that resulted in finding out 2,11,191 cases of ticket less travel, un-booked luggage, irregular tickets etc leading to realization of Rs 7.6 crores as fare and penalty.
Summing up, Waltair Division showed best ever performance in this financial year despite various constraints with its overall performance scaling new heights in the revenue generation to the tune of Rs 8843.84 cores which is 10.83% more than last financial year which was Rs 7979.61 crores…
