Rs.400 crore for solid waste management:

Bringing to an end the city’s travails with disposing its solid waste in all probability, Joint Secretary in-charge of Smart Cities, Union Ministry of Urban Development, Pravin Prakash, says it will get Rs.400 crore for solid waste management.

Exuding confidence that Visakhapatnam has the potential to take the lead and emerge a model for all smart cities, he says that it will also get 80,000 individual toilets and 120 to 130 community/public toilets.

Funds will be routed through the Government of Andhra Pradesh under the Swachh Bharat programme.

Addressing the Citizen Connect interactive workshop organised by the Visakhapatnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Smart Visakha Forum on Wednesday, he said the approaches in the development of smart city would include developing a Greenfield project, improving existing colonies using technology, redevelopment taking an overall area development in some areas like One Town and pan-city initiatives like convention centre and Wi-Fi network. Mr. Pravin Prakash said planning for smart cities was over and it awaited the Cabinet approval.
