Waltair Division achieved the highest loading and passenger carrying during the financial year 2014-15. On account of this, the total revenue earnings reached an all time high earning of Rs. 6653.31 Crores showing an overall increase of 6.17%. It is also significant to point out that the freight earnings of the Division for 2014-15 was at Rs.6159.73 crores. In this financial year (2015-16 till April) passenger traffic was 16.27 millions, a rise of 6.68% over last for the same period earning Rs.150.92 crores which is a rise of 10.67% compared to last year for same period. Freight traffic loading was 24.19 Million Tonnes shows _ growth and in earning Rs.2368.59 crores shows _ to this division for this half financial year which over last year for the same period.
In spite of hardships like cyclonic storm HUDHUD and Maoist activity, suspension of train movements during night in the K – K line, the traffic carried could be increased due to implementation of several traffic facility works innovative measures like running long-hauled empty goods trains up to the hill to save sectional capacity.
The ticket checking performance was remarkable during this financial year. The total cases registered in this year were at 3,96,350 cases against 3,72,890 cases last financial year, shows a rise of 6.29% over the last year for the same period and earnings of cases was Rs 10.23 crores showing 23% rise for the same period.
Waltair Division lays emphasis on passenger amenities to provide quality service to the passengers with continueous improvement and monitoring. Inspite of the fund crunch, many passenger amenity works were carried out. Visakhapatnam which is the most important station of the division saw the completion of developmental works towards Gnanapuram side to ease traffic on plat form no.1 and good road connectivity for civil transportation.
In addition,
1) Passenger Reservation System (PRS) was commissioned in Madhurawada Post Office in August, 2014 under the India Post PRS centre policy and a New PRS was commissioned at Simhachalam Temple under ‘NRH’ policy in January-2015.
2) In order to provide integrated services, a new PRS building was opened at Koraput station with Booking, PRS and Parcel activities.
3) Computerized booking of Retiring room & Dormitory was successfully opened at 5 stations in September, 2014. 4) At 12 Stations, Ticket Booking Sewaks were appointed in Vizianagaram- Rayagada line and in the Main line and 4 Un-reserved Ticketing Systems (UTS) terminals were commissioned at 4 Stations in the Koraput- Kirandul section of the K-K line.5) Computerized E – balance sheet was successfully commissioned at 17 stations over the Division.

1. 22801 / 22802 Visakhapatnam – Chennai – Visakhapatnam weekly super-fast Express train.
2. 12783 / 12784 Visakhapatnam – Secunderabad - Visakhapatnam weekly super-fast A.C. Express train.
3. 58505/58506 Gunupur – Visakhapatnam – Gunupur daily passenger train.
4. 22810 / 22809 Visakhapatnam – Paradeep – Visakhapatnam weekly super-fast Express Train.
5. Duvvada Station has been given halt for 12739 / 12740 Visakhapatnam – Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam daily Garib rath super-fast express train.
To cater to the seasonal demands of the travelling public, particularly during festive and summer, Waltair Division ran special trains and also is augmenting the regular trains with extra coaches to clear extra rush. Special trains for 250 trips were run by the Division. 960 extra coaches were provided in the train augmentation.
The Divisional Accounts Office at Waltair was established on the May Day of 1963. Divisional Accounts Office assists DRM/WAT in rendering financial advice for all proposals involving financial implications, compilation of Divisional budget and setting up of a satisfactory system of budgetary control besides managing the IT infrastructure of the division.
Achievements:-
• Meeting the necessary requirements of the Division the expenditure during 2014-15 was kept within the grant. The Revenue grant to the Division was Rs 2220.83 crores and the total expenditure was Rs 2146.92 crores.
• WEB based pension module APRAN ( Advanced Railway Pension Module Network) had been successfully implemented over Waltair Division during 2014-15 without using additional manpower.
