The FRIENDS OF MUSEUM SOCIETY
is an organisation formed under the auspices of the Corporation Museum (also popularly
known as Visakha Museum) to encourage the involvement of
the public in the Museum and its activities.
The overall objective is to promote
the utilisation and growth of the Museum. The Society will have the Mayor
of the City as its patron and will elect its own Executive body.
When you become a member of the Society,
you will join a circle of other Museum lovers interested in the study and preservation of
the history and culture of our city and the region. You will be entitled to special
privileges such as
- an opportunity to closely examine, under supervision, the
Museum's exhibits and reserve collections
- access to its library of old & rare books, literature on
other Museums and its collection of picture postcards
- participation in expeditions on history and environment that
will be organised by the Museum
We also invite you to take part in
- augmenting the Museum's collection
- restoring & preserving museum objects
- maintaining, operating & adding to the Museum's library
- suggesting Museum events and helping in organising them
Finally, you can
- act as a guide to visitors, on specified days
- help build a Corpus Fund for the Museum
Activities planned for the future, in which
members may help the committee include :
- Publishing the museum catalogue & descriptive brochures
on categories of collections.
- Organising tours for visitors to historic sites, buildings
and monuments in the city
- Setting up an audio-visual library covering the cultural
heritage of Andhra Pradesh
- Establishing and running the Museum Souvenir shop and a
Museum Cafetaria.
