| Noted  computer scientist who introduced computer technology in IITs along  with software and hardware and former Vice-Chancellor of Ranchi  University B. Kantha Rao passed away here on Monday. He was 78 and is  survived by his wife Lalita, a former teacher in Visakha Valley School, a  son and a daughter. 
 Prof. Kantha Rao died soon after he was admitted  to a corporate hospital with a minor complaint. Secretary of Gayatri  Vidya Parishad P. Somaraju while paying rich tributes to Prof. Kantha  Rao said he had introduced new concepts in computer science and done a  lot of research. 
 Many of his students were in top positions in  major companies and institutions around the world. His work received  appreciation from former President and scientist A.P.J Abdul Kalam and  another former President K.R. Narayanan. Prof. Kantha Rao introduced  computer course in GVP College of Engineering in 1996 and was  instrumental in its development. President of GVP and former Mayor D.V.  Subba Rao and others condoled his death .
