The artist of the month
Vinita Singh, is the wife of a locally serving naval officer. She is a graduate in Arts
from the University of Mumbai. She has vast interest in different types of paint work,
with a natural flair for art.
She has mastered Tanjavur and Mysore gold paintings from experienced teachers at
Bangalore. Apart from this, she does glass Tanjavur work, Metal Embossing and Thread work.
She is interested in candle making, artificial flower making and soft toys.

TANJAVUR PAINTINGS :
This art is also known as Temple art and it originates from the place
called Tanjavur in Tamil Nadu. It is based on deities of Lord Krishna, in his various
playful moods, which is the most favourite theme of this art. It is basically a religious
art and the topics of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi are also chosen. This art is found
in the Estates of Mysore and Kochi. This art work is considered an ancestral heritage in
South Indian families. It is made of pure gold leaves and semi precious stones.
A vegetable base is used to put the gold work along with water colours. It takes days of
precision and intricate work by the artist to complete the painting. The cost of each
panting may vary between Rs. 5,000/- to Rs. 25,000/- depending upon the complexity and
size of the painting theme.
MYSORE PAINTINGS : It is
an ancient artistic painting depicting religious characters originating from the Estates of
Mysore and Karnataka. It is also called 'Darbar Art'. An ample number of such paintings at
the Mysore palace shows the royal taste of the dynasty. This art work is also considered to be
an ancestral heritage in South Indian families. It is made with pure gold foils placed on
a specially prepared base along with water colours. The various deities of Lord Ganesha is the
most famous theme for these paintings. The intricacies of the theme require
a highly skilled
and accurate effort by the artist. The cost of each painting may vary between Rs. 5,000/-
to Rs. 15,000/- depending upon the theme and size of the work.
GLASS TANJAVUR : It is
complementary to the original Tanjavur art work. Here the complete work is done on a
piece of glass. It is based on the deities of Lord Krishna, in his various playful
moods and this is the most favourite theme of this art. It is basically a religious art
and the topics of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi are also chosen. It is made of pure
gold dust and oil colours. It takes days of precision and intricate work by the artist to
complete the painting. The cost of each painting may vary between Rs. 4,000/- to Rs.
10,000/- depending upon the complexity and size of the painting theme. |
