Vice Admiral Susheel Menon, VSM, Takes Charge as Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command

Vice Admiral Susheel Menon, VSM, assumed the position of Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command on 1st November 2025 following his promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Vice Admiral Menon was commissioned into the Indian Navy in 1992. A Gunnery and Missiles Specialist, he has had a distinguished career spanning over three decades, with a wide range of operational, training, and staff appointments.

His afloat assignments include serving as Gunnery Officer aboard INS Ranvijay and INS Talwar, as well as Executive Officer on INS Mumbai. He has also commanded several prominent ships, including INS TRV-71, INS Kirpan, the Guided Missile Destroyer Kolkata, and the Aircraft Carrier INS Vikramaditya.

In his staff roles, Vice Admiral Menon served as Commodore (Operations) at Eastern Naval Command Headquarters, as well as holding key appointments at Naval Headquarters in the Personnel Branch, and as Naval Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Staff (VCNS). He also served as Commodore (Strategy, Concepts, and Transformation).

Upon his promotion to Rear Admiral in May 2023, he was appointed Flag Officer Sea Training in Kochi and later became the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet in August 2024.

Vice Admiral Menon is a graduate of the Naval Command and Staff College in Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Naval War College in Rhode Island, USA. In recognition of his distinguished service, he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2019.

His new role as Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command marks another significant chapter in his illustrious career with the Indian Navy.
