Shri Kundu Rama Rao, a 2006-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Engineers (IRSE), has taken charge as the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of Waltair Division, East Coast Railway.
Hailing from Palasa in Srikakulam District, Shri Rama Rao’s academic journey began at MPP School, Geddavuru, and continued at ZPHS School, Yerramukkam. He went on to earn a Diploma in Civil Engineering from SMVM Polytechnic, Tanuku, and completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering from Andhra University in 2002.
Driven by a passion for public service, he cleared the Indian Engineering Services (IES) exam in 2006, securing an All India Rank of 44, and joined the IRSE.
Throughout his career, Shri Rama Rao has held several important positions across Indian Railways. His previous assignments include roles such as Assistant Divisional Engineer (Nagpur), Senior ADEN (Raipur), Senior Divisional Engineer (Bilaspur & Vijayawada), Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction, Guntur), and most recently, Deputy Chief Engineer (Track Machines), Vijayawada under South Central Railway.
Recognized for his exceptional service, Shri Rama Rao has received the General Manager’s Award twice – in 2010 (South East Central Railway) and 2020 (South Central Railway). He also underwent specialized training in Japan on high-speed train operations.
Coming from a modest background, he draws inspiration from his mother, a former Group-D railway employee at Alipurduar Junction, which sparked his early interest in railways. Beyond his professional achievements, Shri Rama Rao is an avid chess enthusiast. He is supported by his family, including his daughter, currently pursuing engineering, and a son in Class X.
