After a gap of over seven months, Visakhapatnam City Police Commissionerate finally got its full-time Commissioner of Police. Amit Garg, a 1993 batch IPS officer, took charge as CP on Monday evening.
Prior to being posted as CP of Visakhapatnam, Mr. Amit Garg was serving as Director of Vigilance and Enforcement in the State of Telangana.
In the allotment of all-India services officers, post bifurcation of the State, he was allotted to AP, and this will be his first posting in AP.
The Commissionerate was without a full-time CP ever since the former police commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy was shifted to Telangana as intelligence chief of that State. For a few months, the north coastal zone IG Atul Singh served as in-charge CP.
Major initiatives
Assuming office Mr. Amit Garg said that it was too early to comment on anything and he will first study the situation in the city.
He however, said that two major initiatives - the Abhayam mobile application and the I-CLIK kiosks will be launched on Tuesday by the Home Minister N. Chinarajappa in the presence of DGP J.V. Ramudu.
