Younger son of the former Maharaja of Vizianagaram PVG Raju and Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju took charge as the hereditary trustee of Simhachalam Devasthanam on the premises of Sri Varahanrusimha Swamy temple on Monday.
He took charge following the demise of his elder brother P. Anand Gajapathi Raju. Reviewing the functioning of the temple later, he wanted the implementation of the master plan for the development of Simhachalam at an early date and to construct Kalyana Mandapam near the temple for people to perform marriages, and dormitories and cottages at the foothill for the stay of devotees.
He also suggested to have a one megawatt solar power plant and to engage experts to prepare a sound-and-light show on the temple’s history and the deity. Collector N. Yuvaraj and Executive Officer K. Ramachandra Mohan explained the steps being taken to protect the Devasthanam’s land, corrections made in survey numbers and that a compound wall is being constructed along the periphery of the Devasthanam lands. Commissioner of Endowments Y.V. Anuradha, Additional Commissioner of GVMC Murthy and Chief Town Planner Venkata Ratnam, were present.
Earlier Mr. Ashok Gajapathi Raju took charge as hereditary trustee at a simple ceremony.
He wished that the lord of Simhachalam would bless the people with peace and prosperity.
His wife Suneela Gajapathi Raju and other family members were present. MLA of S. Kota Kolla Lalitha Kumari was also present.
