A specialist in logistics and supply chain management, he holds postgraduate qualifications in International Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Symbiosis, Pune, Strategic Studies from the University of Madras, and a Masters in Management Studies from Osmania University.

Over a distinguished naval career spanning more than three decades, Rear Admiral Dutta has held several key operational and staff appointments afloat and ashore. His sea assignments include logistics appointments onboard frontline warships INS Sutlej, INS Talwar, and INS Shivalik. He has also played significant roles in information technology projects and data analytics within the Navy.

The Flag Officer has served extensively at Material Organisations in Mumbai and Sri Vijaya Puram, including a tenure as Head of Material Organisation, Mumbai. His important staff appointments include Chief Staff Officer (Personnel & Administration) at Southern Naval Command, Director of Procurement, System Analyst, and Project Director for the Integrated Logistics Management System at Naval Headquarters.

He has also served as the Head of the Faculty of Management Studies at INS Hamla. Prior to taking over his current appointment in Visakhapatnam, Rear Admiral Dutta was heading the Directorate of Administration at Naval Headquarters.

In recognition of his distinguished and meritorious service, Rear Admiral Gokul Krishna Dutta was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2024.
