There are many temples near
the Siva Temple but they
are covered with sand dunes and their Gopurams are only visible. They
were recently excavated. The Siva temple contains inscriptions dating
back to the 12th century A.D. These
inscriptions mention that this village was granted continuance by a commander-in-chief of
the Cholas so that devotees could continue to worship in the temple. The Sivaratri festival
celebrated here is attended by a large number of devotees. |
