A Guide to eating out in Vizag

PRINCESS - Multi-Cuisine (Hotel Green Park)

Since Vizagites are not the type that crave Sushi and not adventurous enough to try giraffe marrow, the 'multi-cuisine' tag is not untrue.

We were told that the manager Mr. Sriram Sharma was on leave and for information had to make do with his deputy, the courteous Mr. Vijay Krishnan.

If you enjoying eavesdropping, this is the place for you. If you are absent-minded, you might find your fingers in a plate on the neighbouring table. A bit of an exaggeration but, in case you haven't got it yet, the point that we are trying to make is that the tables are too closely spaced. Apart from this, the interiors are fairly decent.

The menu is quite descriptive and user-friendly and is divided into the following sections : Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner, Desserts, Light Snacks, Beverages.

Tandoori Prawns

Breakfast : The usual items costing from Rs. 60 to Rs. 75. ( 0700hrs to 1100hrs)

Lunch & Dinner (1200hrs to 1500hrs, 1930hrs to 2200hrs)

Appetizers : Eg: Prawn Cocktail ("Bay-fresh prawns on a bed of cabbage with an exotic sauce")
Salads (Rs. 30.00 to 80.00)
Soups (~ Rs. 35.00) : Including Minestrone and Mulligatawny.
Continental (Rs. 90.00 to Rs. 110.00) : Items such as Vegetable au gratin / Vegetable à la king (Rs. 70.00), Fish n chips (Rs. 90.00), Prawn Newburg ("Juicy prawns marinated in white wine, cooked in exotic Newburg sauce and served on a bed of rice"; Rs.120.00)

From the Kitchens of India : Dishes such as Irani Kebab ("Tender chicken breast stuffed with a mixture of minced chicken and mild spices, marinated in cream, cheese and spices").

From the Orient : Mainly Chinese.

From the wok : (Stir-fried stuff - average cost of a vegetarian dish Rs. 65.00; non-vegetarian Rs. 90.00)

Light Snacks : (~ Rs. 65/-) Fish Fingers, Cutlets, Pakodas, Sandwiches, Pizzas, Burgers.

Cutlets
Kebab

Desserts / Beverages : (~ Rs. 35/-) Gulab Jamun, Ice-creams, Caramel Custard and the usual hot/cold beverages.

We started with Fresh Lime & Soda and (Kingfisher) beer the taste of which the restaurant could neither enhance nor diminish, being third-party fare. These were accompanied by Fish Tikkas (superb; Rs. 95.00) and Vegetable (ball) Manchurian (too much salt; Rs. 60.00). For the main course the Jhinga (Prawn) Masala (Rs. 120.00) was as awesome as the Navaratan Korma (Rs. 65.00) was awful. The Kalmi Masala (Rs. 120.00) was passable and the Malai Kofta curry (Rs. 70.00) was edible but not particularly memorable. The Naans and Rotis were good. All in all, a mixed experience with the cook appearing to favour the non-vegetarians.
