SPORTS FACILITIES COMMISSIONED AT WALTAIR RAILWAY STADIUM

Waltair Railway Division has always given importance to sports with our tagline "THINK SPORTS, THINK RAILWAYS, THINK WALTAIR". To achieve the objective, Division drew a master plan to upgrade all sports facilities in 2017. Shri S.N.Agarawal, Member Staff, Railway Board & President, Railway Sports Promotion Board commissioned the facilities today (22.12.2018) in august presence of DRM, Waltair Shri Mukul Saran Mathur, Principal Chief Personnel Officer, ECoR, Shri PC Nayak; Executive Director, Railway Sports Promotion Board, Smt Rekha Yadav. ADRM ( Infra) Shri K. Dhanunjaya Rao, ADRM(Operations) Shri P.Ramachandra Rao; Sports Officer and Sr. Divisional Personnel Officer Shri Sakkeer Hussain and other officials. As per the master plan, courts for all the net games like Lawn Tennis, Ball badminton, Volley ball, Basket ball were relocated creating additional courts for every sport. The cricket ground was extended to 72 m radius and was renovated with subsurface ground drainage, modern grassing and underground sprinkler facilities. The pitch and outfield was developed with the help of Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association and Andhra Cricket Association technical personnel. The pavilions were modified with all the modern facilities of WiFi, AC Seating, Masseur tables and see through Glass for the home team, foreign team and VIP Lounges. An air conditioned Sports dormitory, weight lifting hall and Gym has also been developed in the cricket stadium. All the equipments and items were prepared as per BCCI standards and is now getting ready to host First class cricket i.e. Ranji matches. The stadium is renamed as WALTAIR RAILWAY STADIUM . Senior Cricket players like Ravi Sastri , Sanjay Bangar and MSK Prasad visited the stadium at its various stages of development suggesting improvements. The existing 50m olympic size swimming pool was also renovated and became the most favourite swimming pool of VISAKHAPATNAM.
