The town is named after 'Bhim', one of the Pandava brothers. It is 24 kms. from Visakhapatnam and is known for the 17th century ruins of a Dutch fort and settlement. A cemetery at the mouth of the river Gosthani has some tombs embossed with the skull and cross bone motifs of sea pirates. The beach here is considered to be the safest and calmest for the swimmers.
