Unite to keep people’s movements alive, Kakarala tells cultural bodies:

Art for people’s sake has inspired several Left movements, says the actor

Unity among cultural organisations championing people’s art forms and the ideology of Left parties is the need of the hour to keep the political movements going strong, character actor of yesteryear Kakarala has said.

Addressing the media after unveiling portraits of prominent personalities from the North Andhra at the Vizag Fest 2015 at AU Engineering College grounds on Monday, he regretted the commercialisation of art.

Unlike in the art for people’s sake that had inspired several Left movements, at present art championing the cause of people and society had ceased to be mainstream, he said.

He recalled the formation of Praja Natya Mandali and how it galvanised people into various movements under the leadership of Garikapati Raja Rao. Plays like “Mundadgu” and “Maa Bhoomi” inspired people to fight against injustice and played a key role in the Telangana Armed Struggle.

Gudavalli Ramabrahmam’s “Raitubidda” and “Malapilla” highlighted the injustice of the zamindari system.

Narsinga Rao’s film Maa Bhoomi captured the events of the past and the scenario of the times admirably well.

Journalist Bobby and Ajay of Telangana Praja Samskritika Vedika were present.
