Purandara Dasa krithis enthral Kannadigas:

The prominent renditions of ‘Dasa Sahityam’ followed by a host of devotional songs offered a soothing effect on the listeners who came to observe the 452nd death anniversary of Purandara Dasa at Kaveri Kannada Sangha on Sunday evening.
Putturu Narasimha Nayak troupe, Bengaluru, descended on the city to render some of the famous compositions of Purandara Dasa.
Putturu Narasimha Nayak treated the audience to soulful ragas composed and sang by Sangeeta Pitamaha.
Apart from this, ‘bhajans’ and ‘Basavanna vachana’ formed part of the music concert. He was accompanied by Vasanth Kumar on keyboard, Raghavendra Joshi on tabla and Venkatesh Purohit on tala.
The musical treat continued for about three hours at the venue where a number of Kannadigas made their way to the hall along with their family members. “It is through his meaningful compositions that Purandara Dasa wanted to promote moral values among people,” explained Vanita Bhat who came to the sangha with her family members.
Secretary of the sangha Vishnumurthy Bhat and cultural secretary Ambika said that Purandaradasa was a dedicated composer who created fundamental lessons to impart Carnatic music by drafting exclusive exercises like ‘swaravalis’ and ‘alankaras’. The artistes from Bengaluru sang over 25 songs and the programme was concluded with a dinner treat.
