Youth makes away with 4.5 kg gold from shop:

Two men riding a bike made good with about 4.5 kg of gold ornaments from a jewellery shop at Tagarpuvalasa Junction under Bheemunipatnam Police Station limits, on Thursday morning. The jewellers gave them a chase, but they were too fast to catch.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy, a gold businessman Uppala Ratna Srikanth, who owns a small jewellery shop at Tagarpuvalasa, is of the habit of packing all the important jewellery in a bag and carry it home, which is located on the floor above his shop, after the business hours and again bring back the bag back to the outlet the next day morning.

On Wednesday night, he followed the same routine and on Thursday morning, he opened the shop and kept the bag on top of the showcase and was settling down. Before Srikanth could realise, a youngster entered the shop and snatched away the bag and vanished in seconds on a bike which was waiting in front the outlet. On realisation, he and a few others tried to chase the offenders, but in vain. According to Mr. Ravi Kumar Murthy, the stolen gold is valued at about Rs. 50 lakh and the police suspect that the robbery could have been a handiwork of persons who knew about the jewellers style of operation. The DCP, who visited the scene of crime, said the shop had four CCTV cameras. However, it was the practice to switch them off while closing the shop and Srikanth did not switch them on Thursday morning when the burglary occurred as he had just opened the shop.
