Two killed as bus shelter crashes:

A Naval employee and a civilian were killed and another naval employee was injured when the concrete roof of a cantilever bus shelter collapsed outside the Vijayanagar Gate of Naval Dockyard here on Wednesday.

“The victims were under the shelter around 1.30 p.m. when the structure came down. The injured person was shifted to the Naval hospital,” according to Malkapuram Inspector P. Ranganadh.

“A 20-meter RCC cantilever bus shelter outside Vijaynagar Gate, Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam), resulted in death of Rajendra Kumar, Sea 1 (Indian Navy sailor) and Rakesh Kumar of Ashish Engineering and injuries to Suraj Sandeep Juvekar, Sea 1 (Indian Navy sailor),” according to an official release issued by the Navy.

“The bodies and the injured sailor were removed from the debris and taken to the Naval Dockyard (Vizag) dispensary. Suraj Sandeep Juvekar was shifted to the Naval Hospital INHS Kalyani for further medical care and treatment. The Indian Navy has constituted a Board of Inquiry to investigate the incident,” the release added.

Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu extended his condolences to the bereaved members of the two families.
