Seven arrested on land grab charge:

The PM Palem police on Wednesday arrested seven persons on the charge of trespassing and occupying 1.66 acres of prime land in Madhurawada area here. The arrested were: Bellana Appa Rao, Bellana Kanaka Raju, Bellana Appa Rao, Bellana Sadhu Rao, Bellana Krishna, Bellana Arjuna, and Kudithi Rama Rao.
The land belongs to one G. Raja Rao, and the accused, all from one family, allegedly forged documents and executed a GPA in favour of Potuluri Srinivasa Chakravarthy and Kudithi Rama Rao and collected Rs. 80 lakh from Chakravarthy.
Later, Srinivasa Chakravarthy approached Raja Rao to confirm the ownership of the land and came to know that he was duped. He asked Bellana Appa Rao to return the amount. The accused trespassed on the land, cut all the mango trees and took away the logs. They later put up a board which mentioned: ‘The land belongs to Bellanna Family’.
According to ACP (Madhurawada) D. Ravi Babu, basing on the trespassing incident, Raja Rao lodged a complaint against the accused and the police acted upon it.
As per the police, Raja Rao had purchased the land measuring 1.66 acres from Bellana Appalaswamy and his family members under Survey No 88/7 in 1980.
Crackdown
The city police recently launched a drive against land grabbers, especially in Madhurawada area. It was found in many cases that the original owners who had sold the land long time ago for a paltry sum were creating forged documents and fake GPAs and reselling the land.
“Most of the land was sold by the earlier generation for a meagre sum, as the city had not developed till Madhurwada. Now that Madhurawada, PM Palem and its surrounding areas have developed, the land prices have increased substantially and the present generation is trying to make some quick money by grabbing the sold land and reselling them,” said DCP (Zone-I) Dr. C.M. Trivikram Varma.

In the PM Police station alone, there are about 70 cases pertaining to land grabbing. And in the last six months, the police cracked 25 cases and arrested some 35 persons.
