Serial burglaries: police catch up with accused:

A special team from the Central Crime Station (CCS) on Friday cracked the sensational serial burglaries reported on the intervening night of January 31 and February 1 at KRM Colony under the Three Town (MVP Zone) Police Station limits.

Following vital leads, the police arrested five of the seven members of the gang here and recovered 473 gm of gold, 1.5 kg of silver, Rs. 5.66 lakh in cash, and three motorcycles from the accused.

Two others, including the prime accused, are at large.

The seven members broke into four houses in the locality and made good with 1,209 gm of gold ornaments, 1.5 kg of silver articles, cash of Rs. 11 lakh, and two motorcycles.

The serial burglaries had sent the Crime Department of the Police Commissionerate into a tizzy, and the CCS team worked under the direct supervision of DCP (Crime) T. Ravi Kumar Murthy and ADCP (Crime) S. Varada Raju.

The arrested were identified as Thota Shiva Bhavani (26) alias Shiva alias Bhavani of West Godavari, Chekatala Satish (22) alias Pandu alias Chinna of West Godavari, Vamala Vinay Kumar (21) alias Vinay of Visakhapatnam, Bitla Keerthi Priya (25), sister of Vinay, and Vamala Puspa Latha (48), mother of Vinay.

However, the prime accused Ambati Madhu (26) of Rajahmundry and Vamala Santhi Priya (22), another sister of Vinay, are at large.

Commissioner of Police Amit Garg said that the seven members of the gang had committed 17 house burglaries in Visakhapatnam city and six in the districts of East and West Godavari.

“They committed 23 burglaries and lifted two motorcycles in the recent past. The remaining two members will be arrested shortly,” said the Mr. Amit Garg.
