RPF constable held in gun misfire case:

The Two Town police arrested K.C. Pradhan, RPF constable, whose weapon went off accidentally on Sunday resulting in the death of head constable Dharmana Musalaiah and injuries to constable S. Malikarjun Rao. According to Two Town Inspector Kalyani, the constable was booked under IPC Section 304 A, causing death by negligence, and was sent to judicial remand on Monday. “We are investigating the case,” she said.

The 9 mm pistol that was being handled by Pradhan went off accidentally when he was checking the weapon after loading the magazine clip. According to ACP (East) R. Ramana, there appears to be some negligence on the part of the constable. “The normal procedure is to check a weapon in the open and not in a four-walled room,” he said. The incident occurred in the armoury of the RPF when a team was gearing up to escort a high-level railway official to the Maoist sensitive Araku region.

The ACP also said that the constable should not have cocked the weapon after loading the magazine in a closed room.
