Maoist held, 12 militia members surrender:

An active member of the Galikonda area committee of the banned CPI (Maoist), Pangi Bhaskara Rao, was arrested at Chintapalli, while a member of Kalimela area committee Korra Santhi, who was active in Malkangiri area in Odisha till recently and 11 militia members from Pedavalasa area surrendered to the police here on Tuesday.

Pangi Bhaskara Rao (22) was allegedly involved in six murders and several cases of arson, famine raids and blasting of the AP Forest Development Corporation’s coffee pulp unit and etc.

He gave hard time to the police for a week after being spotted at Chintapalli shandy before being arrested, Superintendent of Police Koya Praveen told the media here.

Santhi (22) was involved in some violent incidents reported from Odisha in the last few years. She decided to surrender after she came to Gangavaram under Darakonda panchayat in G.K. Veedhi for medical treatment.

The rest of the surrendered, all hailing from Narellabanda village, were helping the Galikonda area committee with logistic support and other activities like carrying blasting material, felling trees and laying them to block the roads.

The surrendered Maoists would receive support from the government according to the guidelines, Dr. Praveen said.
