Huge haul of rice:

Four teams comprising Civil Supplies, Revenue and Legal Metrology officials, formed by Joint Collector Praveen Kumar, have conducted surprise checks on 24 of the 37 LPG retail dealers in the city and booked disciplinary cases against three of them.

The cases against Govardhan Gas Agency, Marripalem, Varaha and Sairam agencies were referred to the Joint Collector for further action.

They also conducted raids on 30 traders and booked cases under the Essential Commodities Act against Dasari Venkataramana of Akkayyapalem and Lakshmi Narasimha Traders of Purushottapuram and seized 190 quintals of rice.

Rice at Rs.30 a kg

At a meeting Mr. Praveen Kumar had with officials of Civil Supplies, Marketing and Ryot Bazars it was decided that fine rice would be sold at ryot bazaars at Rs.30 a kg from June 23.

Traders’ associations have said that they would sell quality rice at a lower price in two, three days.

Fine rice was procured from millers in 2013 and stocked in East Godavari district.

Allocation from it will be requisitioned for sale.
