Five students suspended on ragging charge:

Five second year Electrical Engineering students of Government Polytechnic have been suspended for 15 working days on the charge of ragging their juniors.
“On November 23, the five students went to the classroom of their juniors and demanded that they be addressed as ‘sir’. They even sought their addresses. On receiving a complaint, I placed them under suspension from the next day,” Principal D. Ravindra Prasad said.
“We have informed the matter to the Commissioner of Technical Education and the Regional Joint Director in Kakinada, and also intimated the same to the parents of the five students. All parents/representatives of the students came rushing and admitted that it was wrong on the part of their children to have indulged in ragging. Parent of one accused could not come as she was ill,” he said.

“The punishment is aimed at sending out a strong signal to students about the consequences of indulging in such activities. At the end of the suspension period, a written commitment would be taken from the students that they would not repeat their mistake,” Mr. Ravindra Prasad added.
