Deputy Tahsildar trapped:

ACB sleuths arrested Deputy Tahsildar, Visakhapatnam Urban, D. Sekhar, on the charge of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income on Wednesday.

Nine teams simultaneously raided the residences of Sekhar, his relatives in the city and Vizianagaram district, and unearthed assets worth over Rs. 10 crore as per the present market value.

ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Ramakrishna Prasad said that the assets unearthed so far included one ground-plus-three-storey guest house at Visalakshinagar, a deluxe luxury flat at Seethammadhara, a commercial complex at Daba Gardens, house sites at Ravada and Vizianagaram town, Rs. 13.75 lakh in cash, 200 gms of gold, and seven kg of silver.

He said that cases had been registered under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and investigation was on. Mr. Ramakrishna Prasad told The Hindu that the accused had joined the Revenue Department as a typist and rose to the post of Deputy Tahsildar, and had been involved in corrupt practices since long.

He had a nexus with Mee Seva staff and collected money from the applicants. The DSP also said that some assets were in the name of Sekhar’s wife and relatives. They were being probed, he added.

Sekhar will be produced before the special ACB court on Thursday.
