CBI files case against Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) officials for Rs.80cr loss

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Visakhapatnam, has registered a case against Arup Ratan Das, then DGM (Production), ONGC, Rajahmundry, and 12 other officers along with Deep Industries Limited, represented by Paras Savia, Chairman, Rupesh Savia, Managing Director and other representatives of the firm following a complaint by the ONGC that they caused a loss of Rs. 80 crore.

The CBI officials said Mr. Arup Ratan Das and the officers had entered into criminal conspiracy with the company.

They abused their position and awarded a contract of hire supply of Gas Dehydration Units to the company, under the category of urgency, which ought to have been rejected due to technical deficiencies.

The contract was awarded dishonestly, ignoring the interests of the ONGC and thus caused wrongful loss to ONGC and corresponding wrongful gain to the company.

After registration the case, searches were conducted at 15 places in the residential and office premises of the accused officials, private individuals and the firm in Rajahmundry, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Sibsagar, Bhubaneswar and other places. During the searches, several incriminating documents were seized. The CBI officials revelaed that searches are still in progress.
