2 chain snatchers held

The Pendurty police picked up two youths on charge of snatching gold chains from unsuspecting women and recovered stolen gold chains from them.

The police received a complaint in March from a 50-year-old woman that when she came out of her home in RRV Puram colony behind LG Polymers factory in Pendurty to throw garbage into a roadside bin in the evening miscreants snatched her pustella thadu. Following the leads in the case the Pendurty police with the help of investigation by Harbour SI Ashok Kumar tracked down the two youths – 22-year-old T Mogaraju and 23-year-old D Jagadeeshwar Rao – and recovered the stolen property from them, ACP (North) CM Naidu told the media here on Sunday.

During interrogation the duo confessed that they had committed a similar offence in Kasimkota mandal a year ago. In that case one of the two followed a woman, who had come out of her home at dusk, and suddenly pulled her ‘pustella thadu’ and escaped along with the accomplice on a motorcycle.

The recovered chains were approximately of the value of Rs 2.5 lakh, the ACP said.
