In a joint operation, sleuths of the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and the Patamata police seized about 700 kg of cannabis (ganja), worth more than Rs. 1 crore. They arrested four persons who were carrying the contraband in a vehicle.On a tip-off, that ganja was being smuggled in a four-wheeler, the NIB and the police intercepted a vehicle near Benz Circle on Tuesday. They recovered cannabis, packed in about 60 bags.The seized material was being transported from the Agency area in East Godavari to Tamil Nadu, the police said."We are trying to find out from which hamlet the ganja is being smuggled, its destination and the persons behind the racket," said a police officer.Recently, the Krishna district police seized 600 kg of ganja at Hanuman Junction and took six persons into custody. They seized two vehicles used for smuggling the contraband.
