HPCL to reopen crude distillation unit soon

The Crude Distillation Unit-1 of HPCL’s Visakh Refinery, which was shut down on Friday night following a fire accident, will be revived shortly.
“It will start functioning after replacing a damaged pipeline in a day or two,” a senior official of the company told The Hindu. An internal enquiry will establish the exact cause of the fire and the loss incurred due to it. Describing it a ‘minor’ incident, the company said the fire was put out and unit shut down smoothly immediately. Precautions were taken to stop the spread of fire to other units at the refinery.
Fire tenders of the company were deployed to extinguish the fire. As the fire was brought under control within a short time and later put off successfully, there was no need to requisition help from neighbouring industries and the Fire Department. Visakh Refinery is now implementing Rs. 21,000-crore expansion project.
