ARTIST OF THE MONTH - JULY & AUGUST 2000

Ms. Manorita Singh

Manorita Singh paints for the sheer joy of it. She has had no formal training in the field but has developed her own style over the years. The human face interests her immensely and she tries to capture it in its various moods. The right expressions are more important than the whole, which is incidental. The colours she selects are earthy and natural, more in tune with the subjects she portrays.

Manorita is the wife of (Rear Adm. Gobind Singh) a Naval Officer, posted in Vizag for the last five years. The city of Vizag is dear to both of them, and she has tried to capture the essence of the port city in some of the pen-and ink sketches of the old structures and monuments, which are fast diminishing in the inevitable expanding urbanization of the soon-to-be metropolis.
