Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM will assume Command of the Eastern Naval Command:

Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM will assume Command of the Eastern Naval Command on Monday, 29 February 2016, at a Ceremonial Parade to be held at the Naval Base. Admiral Bisht assumes charge of the Command from Vice Admiral Satish Soni who will be retiring from the Naval Service on completion of forty years of an illustrious career.
The Eastern seaboard has gained prominence in the recent past as exemplified by new acquisitions in all three dimensions that were inducted into the Eastern Naval Command in recent times taking it to the regional centre stage, in consonance with the nation’s ‘Look East Policy and Act East Policy’. The successful conduct of the International Fleet Review-2016 under the helm of Vice Admiral Satish Soni with participation of 50 nations with 24 foreign naval ships, is a testimony to this significant transition.
An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Vice Admiral Bisht was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 July 1979. A graduate from the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, UK (in 1992), he had also attended the Naval Higher Command Course at the College of Naval Warfare, Mumbai in 2001 and completed the 47th NDC course at New Delhi in 2007.
His important afloat appointments include Executive Officer of the anti submarine warfare (ASW) Corvette INS Ajay, Commander Work-up in the Indian Naval Work-up Team at Kochi, Fleet Gunnery Officer of the Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam, commissioning Commanding Officer of the missile corvette INS Kora and command of the stealth frigate, INS Tabar.
Amongst his other important Training/ Staff appointments, the Flag Officer has been the Training Commander, Naval Gunnery School, INS Dronacharya at Kochi, Director Naval Intelligence at Naval Headquarters and has also served as Defence Attaché at the High Commission of India, Singapore.

On promotion to Flag rank on 28 January 2008, the Flag Officer has held appointments as Assistant Controller of Carrier Projects at Naval Headquarters, Chief of Staff, Southern Naval Command, Flag Officer Sea Training at Kochi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam and Asst Chief of Personnel (HRD) at Naval Headquarters. On promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral on 01 September 12, the Flag Officer held appointments as the Controller Personnel Services (CPS) at IHQ, MoD(N) and as Director General of Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) for the last one year prior to taking over as the FOC-in-C East.
