J.Syamala Rao, Disctic CollectorSRI P. MADHUSUDAN ASSUMES CHARGES AS Director( Finance) at RINL : Sri P. Madhusudan, assumed charge as Director (Finance) at RINL, the holding company of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant today.

Sri P. Madhusudan was born on 9th May, 1958 at Arepalli, in Guntur Dist, Andhra Pradesh. He Graduated in B.Com during 1975-78 and secured 10th rank in Andhra University. Sri Madhusudan Qualified as Chartered Accountant in 1982 with 42nd rank in India, qualified for ICWA in 1984 and later was qualified as Company Secretary in 1986.

Sri Madhusudan started his career as Jr. Manager (Finance) in Bhilai Steel Plant on 30.6.1983. After serving Bhilai Steel Plant for 24 years in various capacities, he moved to IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur as General Manager (Finance)During his tenure at Bhilai Steel Plant Sri Madhusudan was instrumental in taking various decisions in key financial areas like Prudent Financial management, Cost Control and Cost reduction Projects, ERP project development and Tax planning areas.At IISCO, Burnpur he was actively associated with modernization of the 2.5 mT Plant.He has also contributed significantly in the on-going MDO (Mines Developer & Operator) selection process for development of Tasra Coal Blocks at Chasnalla Colliery at IISCO Steel Plant.A widely traveled personality, Sri Madhusudan visited various countries like UK, France, Netherlands, France, Belgium and Luxemberg. Sri Madhusudan loves playing Cricket, Shuttle and is a Connoisseur of Classical and Light Music.

REAR ADMIRAL P MURUGESANREAR ADMIRAL P MURUGESAN TAKES OVER AS EASTERN FLEET COMMANDER : After a successful tenure at the helm, Rear Admiral A G Thapliyal handed over the command of the Eastern Fleet, the sword arm of the Eastern Naval Command to Rear Admiral P Murugesan, VSM. The change of guard took place at an impressive ceremony held onboard the Flag ship INS Jalashwa.

Rear Admiral Murugesan is a specialist in Navigation and Direction, commissioned in the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1979. He has held various prestigious operational and staff appointments both, afloat and ashore. In his earlier appointment at Visakhapatnam as a Captain, he commanded the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Ranjit. He has also had the privilege of commissioning the Anti Submarine Warfare Patrol Vessel INS Agray and Landing Ship Tank (Large) INS Gharial as Commanding Officer. His key staff appointments include Principal Director Naval Operations at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi and Naval Attache, Washington, USA. Prior taking over the Eastern Fleet, the Flag Officer was appointed as Assistant Chief of Personnel (Human Resource Development) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi. He is an alumnus of the Naval Command College, USA and has also undergone Overseas Staff Course in the United States of America. 
Cleared for promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral, the outgoing Commander of the Eastern Fleet, Rear Admiral AG Thapliyal, will proceed to take over as the Commandant, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala (Kerala).

VICE ADMIRAL ANUP SINGHVICE ADMIRAL ANUP SINGH TAKES OVER AS THE FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF, EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND : Vice Admiral Anup Singh, AVSM, NM took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma at an impressive ceremonial parade held at the Naval Base here on 27th August, 2009. Vice Admiral Anup Singh inspected the ceremonial guard and reviewed platoons of Naval personnel drawn from various ships and establishments of the Eastern Naval Command. The parade consisted of 24 platoons and was commanded by Commander Ninad Deshpande. The Presidents Colours were also paraded during the parade. Thereafter formal handing/taking over took place at Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command.

Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma was given a fond farewell by the officers and men of Eastern Naval Command. On 31 Aug 09, he will take over as the Chief of the Naval Staff. Born on 14 Nov 1950, Admiral Verma is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla and was commissioned in the Indian Navy in on 01 July 1970. He is a specialist in Communications and Electronic Warfare. In the course of a distinguished career spanning nearly 39 years, the Admiral has held various Staff, Operational and Command appointments. The Flag Officer is a graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, United Kingdom, and has served as the Head of the Training Team at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has also graduated from the US Naval War College, after which he has served as the Senior Directing Staff (Navy) at the National Defence College, New Delhi.

He has been the Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command and then the Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area. The Admiral later served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans), the Chief of Personnel and as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) prior to assuming charge of the Eastern Naval Command on 02 May 08. 
It was with Admiral Verma at the helm that prestigious new acquisitions from all the three dimensions of the Navy joined the Command. Fast Attack Craft INS Car Nicobar and INS Chetlat, Landing Ship Tank (Large) INS Airavat, Naval Air Squadrons INAS 311 and INAS 350 operating Dorniers and UH3H helicopters respectively, and Naval Air Station INS Parundu at Ramnad, and the impressive launch of the Nations first indigenous nuclear propelled submarine Arihant were some of the defining moments of the preceding sixteen months under his stewardship.

Mr. AP ChoudharyNew Director (Projects) of RINL : Mr. AP Choudhary has taken charge as Director (Projects) of RINL, Visakhapatnam. A Post Graduate in Design Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkela Mr. Choudhary joined Rourkela Steel Plant in 1978 where he worked in Projects department and was associated with modernization of RSP and also worked in Maintenance department. From 1997 he worked in Corporate Office of SAIL, New Delhi and was reporting directly to Chairman dealing with various issues related to technical, financial, commercial and industrial relations of all the units under SAIL. Prior to joining RINL he was Executive Director in SAIL. Mr. Chowdhary has joined RINL at most opportune time when the project (Capacity expansion) work is in full swing and 6.3 MT expanded capacity is to be commissioned next year.

REAR ADMIRAL ANURAG G THAPLIYAL TAKES OVER AS FLEET COMMANDERREAR ADMIRAL ANURAG G THAPLIYAL TAKES OVER AS FLEET COMMANDER : After a successful tenure at the helm, Rear Admiral Satish Soni, AVSM, NM handed over the command of the Eastern Fleet, the 'Sword Arm' of the Eastern Naval Command to Rear Admiral Anurag G Thapliyal. The Change of Guard took place at an impressive ceremony held on 26 November 2008, onboard the Flag ship INS Jalashwa.
Rear Admiral Thapliyal is a specialist in Navigation and Direction. He was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 01 Jul 1977 and during his long and illustrious service, he has held various prestigious Operational and Staff appointments both, afloat and ashore. He has commanded IN Ships Ajay, Khukri, Tabar and Mysore. He has also had the privilege of commissioning INS Cheetah (as Navigating Officer) in Poland and INS Ajay and INS Tabar as Commanding Officer, both in Russia. He had served in Visakhapatnam earlier in the capacity as Fleet Operations Officer, Eastern Fleet and more recently, as the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. Prior to taking over the Eastern Fleet, the Flag officer was appointed as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy), New Delhi. He is an alumnus of the Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA and DSSC, Wellington. Rear Admiral Satish Soni, the outgoing Fleet Commander, is proceeding on transfer as the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command.

VPT New ChairmanNEW CHAIRMAN FOR VPT : Senior IAS officer Ajeya Kallam has taken over as the eleventh Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust. Mr. Kallam, a 1983 AP cadre officer, assumed the charge on Monday. The post fell vacant following expiry of the five-year term of K. Ratna Kishore sometime ago. The new Chairman's previous posting was in the AP Transco as its Chairman and Managing Director. He also held the distinction of serving as the district Collector of Visakhapatnam in early 90s.

New GVMC CommissionerGVMC NEW COMMISSIONER : B Sridhar took over as the Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation on Friday 30th October, 2008. He succeeds Mukesh Kumar Meena who has been transferred to Kurnool as the District Collector. A post-graduate in engineering, Mr. Sridhar’s first appointment was as RDO at Rajahmundry after his selection for Group I in 1994. He was conferred IAS in 1998. Later, he was joint collector, Nalgonda for more than three years. Before being posted here, he was Executive Director of Hyderabad Metro Water Works.

New Joint CollectorP SATYANARAYA REDDY TOOK CHARGE AS JOINT COLLECTOR : P. Satyanarayana Reddy took charge as Joint Collector and Additional District Magistrate on Thursday, 29th October, 2008. He comes in place of M. Veerabrahmaiah who has been transferred to Hyderabad. Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy joined Commercial Taxes Department in 1987 and had his initial training here. Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy worked in many districts all over the State before being conferred IAS in March this year. His last posting in the Commercial Taxes Department was in the Commissioner’s office in Hyderabad. Mr. Satyanarayana Reddy had his training in Medak after being conferred IAS.

Rear Admiral Raman Prabhat

REAR ADMIRAL RAMAN PRABHAT TAKES OVER AS ADMIRAL SUPERINTENDENT NAVAL DOCKYARD : Rear Admiral Raman Prabhat, VSM has taken over as the Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard (Visakhapatnam) from Vice Admiral HS Malhi, AVSM, VSM at a formal ceremony held at Naval Dockyard. Rear Admiral Prabhat is an alumnus of Naval Defence Academy, Khadkawasla and was commissioned in the Indian Navy on 01 Jun 1974. He has held various important appointments in the Indian Navy comprising Operational, Repair yards, Training and Research & Development assignments. Prior taking over the present appointment, Rear Admiral Prabhat was the Chief Staff Officer (Technical) at Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command and Director General Naval Project, Visakhapatnam. He is a recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal for distinguished service.
Vice Admiral Malhi now proceeds to Mumbai after 36 years of glorious service, to take over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Mazgon Docks Ltd. During his distinguished career, he held various appointments onboard ships with Steam, Gas Turbines and Diesel propulsions. He has also been the Commanding Officer of INS Shivaji, Warship Production Superintendent - Mumbai, General Manager Refit - Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam and Director of Defence Machinery Design Establishment, Hyderabad. During his nine months tenure at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, he is credited with improving productivity, implementation of numerous welfare measures for the workforce and leveraging Information Technology for various processes. For his distinguished service, has also been awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal.

B. Satyanarayana NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR AT AU :  Rector B. Satyanarayana, who is functioning as in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, assumed charge as Vice-Chancellor here on 20th June, 2008. He took charge as soon as the order from Governor and Chancellor of the university N.D. Tiwari was received late in the afternoon. Talking to reporters after assuming charge, Prof. Satyanarayana, who will turn 60 on July 1, said he had no special strengths, and added that the affection showered by all helped him reach the top post.

He thanked Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Chairman of the AP State Council of Higher Education K.C. Reddy and others for appointing him as Vice-Chancellor. He said the academic standards of the university must be improved further and the help of the university alumni, many of whom were in top positions, would be sought. He said that works like preparing results and marks lists would not be given to private agencies in future following the bitter experience the university faced this year as results of which the degree examinations were delayed. “My first priority is to totally revamp this system,” he said.

Executive Council members S.V.S.S. Ramachandra Raju, I. Muralikrishna and Sridevi, Registrar P. Vijaya Prakash, principals of campus colleges, Deans, Directors, along with a large number of senior professors, university officials and employees turned up at the Vice-Chancellor’s chamber to congratulate him.

Vice Admiral Nirmal VermaVICE ADMIRAL NIRMAL VERMA TAKES OVER AS THE FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF, EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command at a Ceremonial Parade held at the Naval Base here today, 02 May 08. Vice Admiral Verma inspected the Ceremonial Guard and reviewed platoons of Naval personnel drawn from various ships and establishment of the Eastern Naval Command. The Parade was commanded by Commander Parambir Singh, Commanding Officer of INS Karwar and comprised 24 platoons. Flag Officers, Commanding Officers, a large number of officers, sailors and their families witnessed the Parade.

Admiral Verma had been associated with ENC earlier, in the capacity of the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Eastern Naval Command. Following the Ceremonial Parade at the Naval Base, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command paid tributes at the Navy War Memorial on Beach Road to Martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland. Placing of a floral wreath by the Admiral was followed by ‘Reversal of Arms’ by the Guard and a two minute silence observed thereafter as a mark of respect to the Martyrs.

Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma to take over as Flag Officer Commanding-In-Chief, ENC : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma, AVSM will assume Command of the Eastern Naval Command on Friday, 02 May 08, at a Ceremonial Parade to be held at the Naval Base.

The Eastern Seaboard has gained prominence in recent past and this is witnessed by enhanced interaction with our immediate regional neighbours like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and other states of South East Asia. The Eastern Fleet is presently on overseas deployment and its ships are visiting Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Indonesia. All this is in consonance with the ‘Look East Policy’ of our country. Admiral Verma takes over the Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan who would be proceeding to Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy) as the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff.

Vice Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma was born on 14 Nov 1950. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasala and was commissioned in the Indian Navy in on 01 July 1970. He is a specialist in Communications and Electronic Warfare. In the course of a distinguished career spanning nearly 38 years, the Admiral has held various Staff, Operational and Command appointments.

As a Communications Specialist, he has served as the Fleet Communication Officer of the Western Fleet, and at the Directorate of Naval Signals. His Command tenures include those of INS Udaygiri, a Leander Class Frigate, INS Ranvir, A Kashin Class Destroyer and INS Viraat, the Aircraft Carrier. He has also commanded the Naval Academy, INS Mandovi.

The Flag Officer is a graduate of the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich, United Kingdom, and has served as the Head of the Training Team at Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. He has also graduated from the US Naval War College, after which he has served as the Senior Directing Staff (Navy) at the National Defence College, New Delhi.

He has been the Chief of Staff of Eastern Naval Command and then the Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area. The Flag Officer later served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence (Navy). He was appointed Chief of Personnel on promotion to the rank of Vice Admiral in November 2005 and assumed the appointment of the Vice Chief of Naval Staff on 30 Nov 06.

Vishnu, the new Vice Chairman, of VUDA who assumed office here on Wednesday, 26th March, 2008. He took charge from the out going Vice Chairman G. Venkatram Reddy, worked as VC for 2 years 11 months.

Rear Admiral Hari Simran Singh MalhiREAR ADMIRAL HS MALHI TAKES OVER AS ADMIRAL SUPERINTENDENT, NAVAL DOCKYARD : Vice Admiral Ganesh Mahadevan relinquished charge as the Admiral Superintendent Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam on Friday, 11 Jan 08 at a change of Command Ceremony held at Naval Dockyard. Rear Admiral Hari Simran Singh Malhi succeeds Admiral Mahadevan who assumes charge as the Director General Naval Projects (Visakhapatnam).
Commissioned in the Navy on 01 Jul 1972, Rear Admiral Malhi is an alumni of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. He held various prestigious appointments such as the Director Machinery Design Establishment, Secundrabad, Commanding Officer INS Shivaji and Warship Production Superintendent (Mumbai) prior to assuming charge as the eighteenth Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.

Mr. C.G.PATILSRI C.G.PATIL ASSUMES CHARGE AS DIRECTOR (COMMERCIAL) AT RINL : According to a Press Release to VizagCityOnline.com, Sri Chandrasekhar Ghansyam Patil assumed charge as Director (Commercial) at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the holding Company of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Sri Patil took charge from Sri HS Chhatwal who retired from service on 31st August, 2007. Born on 22nd February, 1950 at Bhusawal, Maharashtra, Sri CG PATIL obtained B.Tech (Hons.) in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He also took his graduate Diploma in Materials Management from the Indian Institute of Materials Management.
Shri Patil started his career as Junior Project Engineer in the Project Engineering Department of Rourkela Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited and joined Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on 16.04.81 as Assistant Manager (Purchase). Sri Patil has rich experience in Materials Management and Marketing. During his tenure in Marketing, Sri Patil worked in various capacities and held very important positions and contributed immensely in bringing in record sales year after year in Marketing Department. Sri Patil took efforts to spread the material consumption in rural areas by appointing District Level Dealers (DLDs) at various locations all over the country. A widely traveled person, Sri Patil visited many foreign countries like Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Germany and China. Sri Patil is currently the Vice Chairman of Vizag Zone of CII, Andhra Pradesh Chapter.

NEW RDOs IN DISTRICT : K. Prabhakara Rao has taken charge as Revenue Divisional Officer at Narsipatnam on Wednesday. He was transferred from Peddapuram in East Godavari. D. Venkata Reddy took charge as Visakhapatnam RDO on Saturday. An Ayurvedic physician from Vaddadi in Visakhapatnam district S. Sri Rama Chandra Murty has been elected as a Director of the Chennai-based Indian Medical Cooperative Pharmacy and Stores (Impcops). He would represent coastal Andhra (north) comprising of East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts in the 6,000-member strong Impcops. Dr. Murty said he would strive to reopen the Impcops manufacturing unit at Tadepalli, open sales depots in all districts, create awareness about Ayurvedic medicines and conduct free medical camps.

SIMHACHALAM TEMPLE NEW EO : Mr. Ramachandra Mohan has taken charge as Executive Officer of Simhachalam Devasthanam, Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, 4th July. Prior to his posting here, Mohan served as deputy commissioner of State Endowments Commissionerate at Hyderabad. Mohan told reporters that the would offer a just and transparent administration to the people and assured of protecting the properties of the endowments.

NEW CITY POLICE COMMISSIONER : Mr. N. Sambasiva Rao, IPS took charge as the Commissioner of Police on Sunday, 17th June. Mr. Rao took charge from V.S.K. Kaumudi, who was appointed as Additional Commissioner (traffic) in Hyderabad. Mr. Sambasiva Rao said he would finalise his priorities after studying various issues. He said Vizag was a peaceful city and he would pursue the construction of new building for the commissionerate and formation of new police stations at Gangavaram, PM Palem and Airport area and upgrading the police stations at Pendurthy and Parawada.


NEW RURAL SP TAKES CHARGE :
Dr. Akun Sabharwal, IPS took charge as the Superintendent of Police (Rural) on Sunday, 17th June. Dr. Sabharwal assumed the office from DIG of Visakhapatnam Range Jitender. He said, he would accord priority to combat the activity of Maoists and land mafia, a special joint action committee had been formed with Revenue Divisional Officer, Registrar and CI of Bheemunipatnam as members to review land disputes. The panel, which has already started functioning, was set up in consultation with District Collector A.K. Singhal and Mr. Jitender.

EPDCL NEW CMD : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com Sri Lav Agrawal, IAS took charge as Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited on 10th June 2007 at 12.00 Noon. He was earlier Collector of West Godavari District and also worked in the C.M Peshi. The CMD, in his opening address stated that in the present competitive environment, there was no point in being second best. He had heard that EPDCL was the best and being the best, we had to top by a margin, so that there would be no competition. He also stated that ownership is the key to success and a team had to own the work that they take up to ensure success.

NEW CUSTOMS COMMISSIONER : IRS officer of 1975 batch Rakesh Kumar took over as Customs Commissioner in Visakhapatnam recently. He hails from Uttar Pradesh and is a post-graduate in Physics. Earlier, he had held the posts of Commissioner of Central Excise at Vadodra and Chief Vigilance Officer of the Shipping Corporation of India. Two more IRS officers of 2005 batch - Suja and Mani Maran - were posted as Assistant Commissioners of Customs in the city.

SHRI. C. VENUGOPAL AS SR. DIVISIONAL COMMERCIAL MANAGER OF WALTAIR DIVISION : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Shri. C. Venugopal, 1990 batch officer of Indian Railway Traffic Service assumed on 4th May 2007 as Sr. Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division, Earlier he had been in the post for around two years till April 2005 during which the Division has witnessed improvements in Passenger Services and won the Commercial Shield. Prior to this posting Shri. Venugopal was the Sr. Divisional Operations Manager here.

SRI P.K. BISHNOI ASSUMES CHARGE AS CMD - RINL : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Sri P.K.BISHNOI assumed the charge as Chairman - Cum – Managing Director at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the holding company of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant today. A graduate Engineer from Indian School of Mines (an IIT), Dhanbad, Sri Bishnoi obtained MBA from the prestigious IIM, Ahmedabad. Prior to joining RINL, as Director (Finance) on 1st April, 2004, Sri Bishnoi had worked with Larsen & Toubro-Bombay, Planning Commission- New Delhi and Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd in various functions like Marketing, Exports, Works, Finance etc., before assuming general management responsibilities and Directorship of the PSU.

Sri Bishnoi was also associated with several non- PSU Joint ventures with MNCs including companies in Dubai & London. Sri Bishnoi has widely traveled all over the World. At Vizag Steel, Sri Bishnoi is credited with path-breaking initiatives in the areas of Agro-forestry, Foreign-exchange Management, Cost reduction in Financial services, Insurance, in-house Communication and Knowledge enhancement, ISO 9000 for finance function and RINADS, the in-house advt. agency, to name a few. Sri Bishnoi has also been spearheading VSP's efforts in implementing ERP and several Joint Venture (JV) initiatives for SMS grade Limestone, Coking Coal, Ferro Manganese etc., 
Sri Bishnoi was Chairman of the Ministry of Steel appointed Committee to study and recommend assured supplies of Coking Coal to SAIL and RINL and his recommendation for formation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) amongst RINL, SAIL, Coal India, NTPC and NMDC to acquire Coking coal assets overseas by investing Rs. 10,000 crores initially and going upto Rs. 25,000 crores was well accepted and the proposal for formation of the said SPV is under consideration of the Government. Sri Bishnoi is also a member of the Bagchi Committee, set up by the Ministry of Steel for restructuring BIRD group of Companies.

NEW FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan, will assume command of the Eastern Naval Command on 30th April 07, at a ceremonial parade held at Naval base. The Eastern seaboard has gained prominence in the  recent past and  this is witnessed by enhanced interactions with our maritime neighbours like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and other states of South East Asia. The Eastern Fleet is presently on overseas deployment and its ships have just visited China, Russia, Japan and Singapore to exercise with their naval ships.

All this is in consonance with the 'Look East Policy' of our country. Admiral Suthan takes over the Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Arun Kumar Singh who could be retiring from service on 30th April 07.

Vice Admiral Arun Kumar Singh

VICE ADMIRAL AK SINGH APPOINTED AS THE FLAG OFFICER COMMANDING-IN-CHIEF, EASTERN NAVAL COMMAND : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Vice Admiral Arun Kumar Singh yesterday took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern naval Command on 26th Oct 06. He was born on 25th April 1947 in Almora, Uttaranchal State and joined National Defence Academy as a cadet in 1964. 

He was Commissioned on 1st Jan 1969 and served on ships before joining the Submarine arm in 1971. As a lieutenant and Lieutenant Commander her served on various Submarines, the Submarine base INS Virbahu and INS Satavahana. As a Commander and Captain, he was commanded submarines, ships and submarine Squadrons (including command of the first Kilo class Submarine Squadron in 1988) and the Submarine Base INS Virbahu during his career. He has also served in Sri lanks during Ops Pawan (1988). As a commodore, he has served as Director of Tactics and Director of Submarine Operations at Naval Headquarters. After promotion to Rear Admiral in Oct 1996. The Flag Officer held various appointments including the Command of Eastern Fleet. On promotion to Vice Admiral Rank he held the appointment of Controller of Personnel service at NHQ and Director General of Indian Coast Guard. He was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Unified Andaman and Nicobar Command on 28th Feb 06. Admiral Arun Kumar Singh has undergone Specialization in Navigation and Direction Course (Kochi), Nuclear Submarine and Missile Course (Russia) and is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College (Wellington), the College of Naval Warfare (Karanja Island-Mumbai), and the National Defence College (New Delhi). He is a recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal, Ati Vishist Seva Medal and the Nau Sena Medal.

Commodore Mohandas
NEW NAVAL OFFICER IN CHARGE : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com,Commodore K.N. Mohandas took charge as the new Naval Officer in Charge of Andhra Pradesh from Commodore R.S.S. Subramaniam at Naval Dockyard yesterday. On the occasion, Commodore   Mohandas inspected a 19 men guard and platoons of officers and sailors. He is a communications and electronic warfare specialist and held various appointments both afloat and ashore. He served as a naval assistant to the Flag Officer Commanding in chief Southern Naval Command and directing staff of Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. 
Commodore Mohandas was an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Prior to this post, Commodore Mohandas was Group Commander of NCC, Kochi. He was awarded the Sena Medal in 2004 for his distinguished services. Commodore RSS Subramanian is proceeding to Goa to take up his next appointment as the Chief Staff officer to Flag Officer, Goa Area.

REAR ADMIRAL P.K. CHATTERJEE TAKES OVER AS FLAG OFFICER SUBMARINES : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Rear Admiral Pradip K Chatterjee has assumed the duties of Flag Officer Submarines at Visakhapatnam. He is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and National Defence College. Prior to promotion to the Flag rank he was holding the appointment of Principal Director of Submarine Acquisitions at Naval Headquarters. He has held many prestigious command and staff appointments including command of Submarines Shankul and ships including the training ship Krishna and destroyer Rajput.

Mr. Solan Gupta

VICE ADMIRAL SUREESH MEHTA APPOINTED AS CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF : According to a press release to VizagCityOnline.com, Vice-Admiral Sureesh Mehta has been appointed the next Chief Naval Staff. Admiral Mehta will take over from Admiral Arun Prakash when he retires on 31st October. He Promoted as Rear Admiral in 1995, Admiral Mehta served as Flag Officer Goa Area, Assistant Controller Carrier Projects and Assistant Chief of Personnel. He commanded the Western Fleet, the 'sword arm' of the Indian Navy, during Operation Parakram, the year-long standoff with Pakistan in 2001-2002. His appointments in the rank of Vice-Admiral include Chief of Personnel, Director-General Coast Guard and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff. He is now the Flag Officer Commanding-in-chief, Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at Visakhapatnam.

VENKATESWARAN, NTPC NEW GM :  R. Venkateswaran took over the charge as general manager of Simhadri Thermal Power Project of the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) yesterday. Prior to joining Simhadri, Venkateswaran was general manager and business head of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (a joint venture of NTPC and SAIL) in Rourkela. As an engineering graduate, he has wide experience of more than two decades in construction, erection, commissioning, operation and maintenance of super thermal power plants at Ramagundam, Kahalgaon and Farakka.

NEW CO FOR INS CIRCARS: Commodore G. Vinoda Babu, VSM took over as the Commanding Officer of INS Circars from Commodore S.P.R. Reddy, VSM, at a ceremonial parade held at INS Circars parade ground yesterday. He was presented a 19-men guard and he inspected platoons consisting of officers and sailors from INS Circars and additional units. Commodore Babu, an anti-submarine warfare specialist, also served as a Defence Advisor HCI, Colombo and commanded ships like INS Ghariyal and INS Shakti. An alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington he served as the Fleet Officer Operations, Eastern Fleet from 1998 to 2000. Prior to taking over the present appointment, he was the CSO (Ops) Headquarters Southern Naval Command. For his distinguished service, he had been awarded Vishist Sewa Medal. Commodore S.P.R. Reddy, VSM is proceeding to DMDE, Secunderabad to take up his next appointment.

PRAVEEN PRAKASH TAKES OVER AS EPDCL CMD: Mr. Praveen Prakash took charge as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Eastern Power Distribution Corporation Limited (EPDCL), Visakhapatnam on the 24th of May amid chanting of mantras by Veda Pandits. Mr. Indra Ghosh

INDRA GHOSH TAKES CHARGE AS NEW DRM: Mr Indra Ghosh, an officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service of the 1976 batch took over charge as the new Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of East Coast Railway on the 5th of May, in place of Mr. S. V. Arya, who has been promoted and posted as Chief Operations Manager of Northern Frontier Railways at Guwahati. According to a press release by the ECoR Railway to VizagCityOnline.com, Mr Ghosh held important positions in Moradabad, Lucknow and Ambala in the Northern Railway. After a six-year successful career there he went on promotion as Junior Administrative Grade Officer to the North Frontier Railway.

After a four-year stint there, he went on a special assignment with the Canadian National Railways in Montreal, after which he worked in various capacities in the Indian Railways. His last assignment was  as Executive Director (Freight Marketing) in the Railway Board when he was instrumental in boosting freight loading on IR to 668 MT through his innovative schemes and policies. Mr Ghosh is a good badminton and chess player, the release added.

NEW SP TAKES CHARGE: Mr. J. G. Murali took charge as the new Superintendent of Police, Visakhapatnam from the outgoing SP, Mr. V V Srinivasa Rao on the 17th of May. Speaking on the occasion, he announced that his priorities are curbing Naxalism, confronting land sharks and working for the welfare of the police personnel. Mr Murali, who belongs to the 1995 IPS batch, had earlier served as the DCP (Traffic), Cyberabad and held key positions in Nizamabad, Kurnool, Adilabad, Hyderabad and Vizianagaram.

A B.Tech graduate from IIT Kanpur and a native of Bhatinda in Punjab is 1993 IAS batch officer. He had earlier served as sub-collector Gadwal (August 1995- May 1997), ITDA Project Officer, Kota Ramachandrapuram, West Godavari district (May 1997-July 1998), Project Officer, Utnur, Adilabad district (August 1998-November 1999), Joint Collector, Guntur (November 1999- December 2002), Joint Collector Chittoor (December 2002-June 2003), Collector Medak ( June 2003-May 17th, 2005) and Collector, East Godavari District (May 18th, 2005 till his recent posting in Visakhapatnam).

D Muralidhar ReddyD Muralidhar Reddy appointed Additional Commissioner for GVMC : Mr D Muralidhar Reddy has been appointed as the new Additional Commissioner of GVMC. He has taken over charge as the Additional Commissioner of GVMC on the 19th of January. He began his career as trainee engineer in 1974 with HMT Limited and has held various positions in Research & Development Centre and rose to the position of General Manager (R&D) in 1997. Mr Om Prakash was subsequently made General Manager (Production) of the Tractor Plant. He took over as its Unit General Manager in 2004.
